Tea
Every morning we like to begin our day with a
cup of tea for breakfast-time. We drink tea every day. But more than three
hundred years ago most of the people in Europe
didn’t know anything about tea. Some people had heard about tea, but very few
of them knew what to do with it.
There is a story about an English sailor
who went to countries in the east, the west and the south. He was in India and China . One day he came home and
brought some tea as a present for his mother. She told her friends about a
present and asked them to a “tea party”. When her friends came for tea party,
the old woman brought in a large plate and put it in the middle of the table.
There were a lot of tea-leaves on it. The old woman’ friends began to eat them.
Of course nobody liked the tea-leaves.
At that time the sailor came in. He looked at
the table and said, “Mother, what did you do with the tea?”
“I boiled it, as you said”
“And what did you do with the water?”
“I threw it away, of course,” answered an old woman.
“Now you may throw away the leaves, too,” said her son.

Reddy
My name is Ann. I was at the
rest camp “Albatros” last summer.
One morning the campers of our
section went to the forest. We walked and ran there, picked flowers and sang
songs. On our way home suddenly we saw a very small fox sitting under a tree.
It was just at our feet. It was on the ground looking at us with its little
bright eyes. The fox was ready to run away. But we picket it up and put it into
the basket.
Then we looked under the tree
near us: there were no other foxes there. We took the fox to the camp and gave
it some milk. It was very interesting to watch the fox drinking milk. The fox
was red and we called it Reddy. For three days Reddy lived at the camp. On the
fourth day we carried it back into the forest. When we put the basket down and
opened it, the fox jumped out of the basket and ran away. We all said,

Tom’s Early Life
The street where the Tom’s family lived was
dirty and the houses were of wood, with small windows. Canty’s family lived in
one room.
The mother and the father had a bed, but
Tom, his grandmother and his two sisters, Bet and Nan ,
slept on the floor and covered themselves with rags.
Bet and Nan
were fifteen years old. They were twins. They were always dirty and in rags,
but they were kind-hearted girls. Their mother was like them but their father
and their grandmother were very bad people.
They often got drunk and then they
fought each other and beat the children.
Tom’s father John Canty, was a thief and
Tom’s grandmother was a begger, and they made the children to beg.
Every day Tom went out to beg in the
street. If nobody gave him any money his father and grandmother beat him at
night and sent him to bed hungry.
But there were some good things in Tom’s
life. Among the people who lived in the some house there was a kind old person.
He taught Tom a little Latin and how to read and write. The old man also told
him many stories about kings and princes. Tom liked to listen to his stories.
When the children played Tom was always a
prince and the boys were lords and his court.
At night Tom thought about kings and
princes who were clean and very well dressed and lived in very beautiful

stronger and stronger day by day and at last he could think of nothing else.
